Asko Nõmm is an independent Product Designer in Tallinn.
Thanks for joining me Asko. What’s a product you use that deserves more attention and why?
Notion, for organizing everything in my personal and work life.
What do you wish you knew at the start of your career?
It's okay to ask a million questions. In fact, it's better to ask a million questions.
What is the most memorable moment of your career so far?
I got one of my very first clients because they overheard me speaking to a friend, saying "So I do design now", and that client immediately teleported in front of me with "Design uh? I have work for you.". I wish getting all clients would be this easy.
What do you think are some of the challenges creatives will face over the coming years?
With the remote work becoming more accepted and thought about, rather than being a second thought that it currently so far is, there will be a lot more competition on the market. This means creatives have to find ways to make them stand out from the crowd and focus more than ever on building lasting relationships.
What advice do you follow?
Be kind and you will be rewarded.

I’d like to thank Asko for sharing - in particular:
Be kind and you will be rewarded
It’s remarkable what even the smallest act of kindness can do mentally. There’s nothing like that Buddha-esque, warm feeling of going to bed knowing you made a difference in someone’s day. If only tech companies had us hooked on altruism… that’s my kind of utopia… or dystopia?
If you’ve thoughts on anything you’ve read, or just want to say hi, tweet me. And if you enjoyed this issue, I’d love it if you’d share it with a friend or several thousand friends.
Series 2
Thank you, dear reader, for being a part of the first series of Design Tales. I’ve learned a lot from these stories and thank all the creatives for sharing their insights. Let me know if you enjoyed these. And if you’ve got a moment to help make Series 2 better, take a few taps to submit this 2-minute survey. I’d be super grateful.
Expect Series 2 to start hitting your inbox after a short break. The first features Duaa Zaheer, a product designer formerly at Microsoft, based in Canada. If you’d like to feature in Series 2 with a profile of your own, get started with the button below.
Until then, stay well and I’ll see you on the other side — Oli
